Using an electromagnetic flow meter (magmeter) for sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄)
Project type
For battery Manufacturers
Date
May 2024
Location
Baddi, Himachal Pradesh
Why Electromagnetic Flow Meters Work for H₂SO₄
No moving parts: Ideal for corrosive fluids like sulfuric acid.
Conductive fluid requirement: H₂SO₄ is highly conductive, making it suitable for magmeters.
Non-intrusive measurement: Reduces wear and tear and risk of leakage.
⚠️ Key Considerations
Liner Material Compatibility:
Use PTFE (Teflon) or PFA liners for strong chemical resistance.
Avoid rubber or polyurethane liners, which degrade in contact with H₂SO₄.
Electrode Material:
Choose Hastelloy C, Tantalum, or Platinum electrodes for corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel is not suitable for concentrated sulfuric acid.
Concentration & Temperature:
Higher concentrations and temperatures increase corrosiveness.
Ensure the meter is rated for the specific concentration and temperature range.
Installation:
Ensure full pipe flow and proper grounding.
Avoid air bubbles and sediment buildup.
